Baba charities -- Ag & Farming programs
According to the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) 12.8 percent of U.S. households were food insecure at some time during 2022 (the year of most recent data). This represents 17 million Americans. According to USDA data this number is an increase from 13.5 million in 2021. BABA Charities offers a slate of creative programs to positively address this issue. These creative programs include (but are not limited to):
Community Gardens
Going into urban areas where there is significant food insecurity and partnering with local nonprofit organizations to create community gardens. These gardens yield fruit and vegetables that can be distributed to local residents. This fresh produce may also be donated to local places of worship and other agencies for food pantries for the poor and homeless.
Youth Farming
Partnering with public and private entities to acquire small tracts of land in food insecure urban areas. We are then able to provide opportunity for young people in these high food insecure areas to plant and manage small scale crops. Not only do the young people gain valuable skills, they produce fruit and vegegables their families can consume as well as sell these items and donate a portion of their produce to charitable groups that feed the needy. Participants learn agricultural skills, social responsibility, and community values while also creating revenue from the sale of produce.
Major Scale Agriculture Production
Partnering with other public and private entities to acquire farmland from which fruit and vegetables are planted and harvested, with a portion of the produce being distributed to charitable entities (such as faith-based organizations and places of worship) for consumption by those in need. A major portion of prouce can be sold at various markets in-season. This operation can target homeless persons, those recently released from incarceration, and other high risk persons to be employed at the site.
